Each year, grocery insiders from across the state attend the Grocers in the Capitol Day event. This event gives growers, grocers and supply chain representatives the opportunity to hear from Wisconsin’s top lawmakers and to voice their opinions on recent and future legislative actions that will affect the food supply chain.

On Monday, January 30, the Rotary Books for the World program in Wisconsin celebrated its one-millionth pound of books shipped from Wisconsin — no small accomplishment. Rick Kantner, Director of Sales & Marketing for Alsum Farms & Produce, Inc., was honored to be a part of that celebration and to be recognized, on behalf of Alsum, for Alsum’s role in the global donation program. Since 2007, Alsum has taken part in 22 of the 24 book shipments, helping load books into some of Alsum’s fleet of trucks.

Food safety matters to all of us — and at Alsum Farms & Produce, Inc. we’re committed to food safety best practices. But that can be difficult to demonstrate to the average potato lover. So we’re proud to announce that Alsum Farms & Produce received a 100% perfect score on its 2012 PrimusLabs GFS audit.

On January 28, Derrick Smit, safety and training coordinator at Alsum, and Larry Alsum, general manager and owner, joined members of First Reformed Church on a mission to West Africa. The group will work with people in both Ghana and Liberia to help show them sustainable ways of farming.

While Ghana is more advanced than other countries in Africa, hunger is still prevalent in rural areas. Liberia remains one of the world's poorest countries.

Every year the staff and families of Alsum Farms & Produce, Inc., Alsum Transport and Alsum Farms gather together to celebrate another year’s successful harvest. Because we’re dedicated to health and wellness, we include a little “sport” in our End of Harvest Celebration as well. What sports, you ask? Tater-center sports such as: Putt-a-Tater, Tater Race, Tater Toss and Hoola Hoop Tater.

This Thanksgiving, the Walworth-Lakeland Elks Lodge #2201 will receive a little extra help from both Cub Scout Pack 327 and  Alsum Farms & Produce Inc. — over 150 pounds of fresh grown Wisconsin potatoes that will be served at the Elks’ hosted Complimentary Thanksgiving Dinner, Thursday, November 24.  

Alsum Farms & Produce will hold a groundbreaking ceremony on Friday, October 22 at 11:30 a.m. The ceremony will mark the first steps of a multi-phase expansion project that includes new office space, a new maintenance shop and additional areas for cooling and packaging fresh produce. Currently employing 130 people, Alsum Farms & Produce and anticipates hiring an additional 30 to 50 employees upon the completion of its new expansion project.
