Alsum Produce has farming operations of 1300 acres in the fertile soil of the Lower Wisconsin River Valley near Arena. The cool northern temperatures, abundant underground aquifer, and sandy loam soil combine with Alsum's finest seed potatoes to give customers the freshest, best-tasting potato varieties available.

Responsible Growing Practices

Alsum Produce takes an environmental approach to growing potatoes. We hill the potatoes in rows to create the ideal growing environment. Our scout carefully inspects the fields and recommends the use of pesticides only when necessary. When we do use chemicals, we spray low to the ground, making it safer for employees and as environmentally friendly as possible. Minimum tillage and soil conservation practices round out our commitment to the environment.

Interval Planting Assures Steady Supply

We plant early in the growing season to assure a ready supply of potatoes in July. We continue to plant throughout April for harvest in September - the optimum time for storing potatoes. This assures our customers a steady supply of potatoes throughout the year. Once harvested, the produce is loaded onto refrigerated trailers for transport to our packing shed, or put into environmentally-controlled storage at our modern warehouses in Arena and Friesland. Here our potatoes are kept cool and dry in a ventilated, humidity-controlled storage facility - ready to be packaged at our customers' request.
